The huge, chrome-laden maw of the upcoming 2007 Lincoln Navigator grabs attention on the road, says Ford's North American design chief, Peter Horbury. During a late-June press preview of 2007 models in Dearborn, Mich., Horbury related an experience he had while driving the big SUV. "People were craning their necks to see the front end," he recalled. "Then I got the thumbs up. At least I think it was the thumb."
SMART ALECKS - If you're a fan of automotive blogs, you may have read about the billboards in South Africa featuring a photo of a Smart car and the words "German engineering, Swiss innovation, American nothing." In late June Chrysler PR boss Jason Vines used his company's own blog to announce proudly that his counterpart at Smart had ordered the billboards removed when the message was called to his attention. The ad agency that created the campaign, Vines wrote, "explained that it meant no harm and that 'American nothing' related to the smallness of the car."
