Auto dealerships that offer rental cars as service loaners are using software to streamline ordering and billing.
UnitedAuto Group Inc.'s Inskip Volvo (inskipvolvo.com) in Warwick, R.I., rents about 600 vehicles each month. The store has used Enterprise Rent-A-Car's Automated Rental Management System software since last November.
The primary benefits are that the software speeds billing and can reduce miscommunication between the dealership and the rental company. The system offers real-time information about available rental vehicles.
Says Inskip Volvo's service manager, Mike Johnston: "What I'm finding is that Enterprise isn't running out of cars. The customer will come in, and Enterprise knows they're coming. Before, it was like throw everything in the air and see where it lands."
Enterprise is not the only company with such software. TSD Inc., of North Andover, Mass., offers a similar application. Like Enterprise, TSD's software is compatible with Reynolds and Reynolds and ADP dealership management systems.
