DETROIT -- The Chrysler group is adding a third shift at its Toledo North plant in Toledo, Ohio, where it builds the Jeep Liberty and forthcoming Dodge Nitro SUVs.
The third shift will be added in the third quarter, the automaker said Thursday. It is expected to create 750 jobs.
Most of those jobs will be filled by Chrysler group workers called back from layoff. Many will come from the Toledo area, a company spokesman said.
Last November, the automaker said it would spend $600 million at the plant to prepare it to build the Nitro. More than 160,000 square feet of floor space has been added, along with equipment and conveyers. The plant has been building the Jeep Liberty since 2001.
The Dodge Nitro goes on sale this fall.
