To the Editor:
I enjoyed the column on numeric and alphabetical car names. But I do have to say that Lucerne is a dairy company, and the name makes me think of a gallon of milk!
In defense of Saab's use of numeric designations, the use of "9" goes back to Saab's aircraft heritage. Saab numbered its military aircraft projects up to 89. The automobiles used the 9; the first Saab car was a 92.
Therefore, there is some creativity in using the numbered names, as well as a little bit of history.
