LOS ANGELES -- Nissan North America Inc. has told its dealers to stop selling 2006 four-cylinder Altimas and Nissan Sentra SE-Rs assembled between January and May of this year because of a chance of engine fires.
The company is investigating reports that the vehicles consume more oil than usual. About 100,000 vehicles are affected. The company has received about 215 reports of excessive oil use and 17 reports of engine fires. There has been one injury.
The company has extended the engine warranty on the two models to 84 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
