DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has tied the national furor over gasoline prices to a new customer offer that expires July 31.
Buyers can choose 0 percent financing plus a prepaid MasterCard debit card that can be used to purchase up to $1,000 worth of gasoline by the end of the year. In lieu of the free fuel, the customer can receive $1,000 - either in cash or applied to the purchase price of the vehicle - in addition to the 0 percent financing.
Customer cash of $1,000 to $4,000 continues to be available in lieu of reduced rate financing on several models in addition to the free gasoline or new $1,000 incentive. The Ford GT and Mustang GT are not included in the gasoline giveaway.
Neither General Motors nor the Chrysler group moved last week to match Ford's gasoline offer or to announce any new incentives for June. A week earlier, GM announced a gasoline subsidy program for several models sold in California and Florida.
