TOKYO -- Nissan Motor Co. will launch its Infiniti luxury brand across western Europe in 2008.
Infiniti began sales in the United States and Canada in 1989. The brand also is sold in Korea, Taiwan and the Middle East. It will launch in Russia this fall, and in China and Ukraine during 2007.
Unlike Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus luxury brand, which launched in Europe by sharing Toyota showrooms, Infiniti will begin with a dedicated sales and service network.
"This is the ideal time for Infiniti to launch in Europe," Brian Carolin, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Nissan Europe, said in a statement. "This timing allows us to bring the next generation of Infiniti models, including a fully competitive lineup of petrol and diesel engines" to the European market.
Nissan previously had said it would not launch Infiniti in Europe before April 2008.
