To the Editor:
I am a Florida CPA who has worked with car dealers for years, all high-end foreign franchises, and a few truck guys. I retired from public accounting a few years ago but still work with a Winter Park, Fla, entrepreneur who owns four dealerships.
I can remember him saying, "What's good for GM is good for the United States."
My, how that has changed over the years. Now we talk about General Motors and Ford Motor Co. and how every business goes out of business one way or the other.
There isn't yet talk of a bailout; that wouldn't work anyway.
Edward Lapham's nominees for the GM board of directors are great, especially Roger Penske ("GM's board needs some new flavors," April 3). I would pick some car dealers who still sell cars one at a time, entrepreneurs in the business who are in touch with the public and understand what it takes to sell cars.
A board does not know how to sell cars.
I nominate dealer Billy Dingman of Winter Park for GM's board. I know he can make it work.
