To the Editor:
Building Big 3 vehicles to the customer-perceived value of Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans will only slow down the rate of decline in Big 3 market share. The Big 3 need a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty to overcome the perception of a tainted product.
I'm probably typical of buyers of transplant vehicles. We're on our fourth North American-built Honda since 1980, and we buy them because they are durable, reliable and give good fuel mileage.
The Big 3 must provide better quality and design than the transplants.
That will not be a simple or short-term task since it took the Big 3 three decades to decline to their present condition.
