DETROIT -- Akebono Corp. North America told Monday of plans to relocate its headquarters from Farmington Hills, Mich., to Elizabethtown, Ky.
The supplier said about 50 positions will be moved during 2006. The plan was first reported by Automotive News three weeks ago.
The move helps consolidate Akebono with Ambrake Corp. Ambrake, of Elizabethtown, Ky., was a joint venture between Delphi Corp. and Akebono. Akebono bought out Delphi's stake.
Akebono will leave its engineering, sales and r&d team in suburban Detroit.
Akebono ranks No. 74 on the Automotive News list of the top 150 suppliers to North America with North American original-equipment automotive parts sales of $579 million in 2004. It supplies brakes, friction materials and components. The company did not immediately return a message Monday morning.
Ambrake ranks No. 120 on the same list with original-equipment sales of $324 million in 2004.It supplies brakes.
