DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has named three companies as preferred suppliers: Panasonic, Sonavox and Superior Industries, a Ford spokesman said. Panasonic and Sonavox supply electronics; Superior makes aluminum wheels.
The program aims to slash the number of suppliers and strengthen relationships with remaining ones.
Ford also has signed or extended long-term contracts totaling $1.8 billion with six suppliers: Johnson Controls Inc., Visteon Corp., Robert Bosch GmbH, Foster Electric, Kiekert and Pirelli.
