DETROIT -- Seven states and six countries used the 2006 SAE World Congress to make economic development pitches to the global auto industry.
Mexico, Canada, Korea, Italy, India and Germany had booths at the conference. In addition, national trade groups, such as the Australian Die Casting Association, also set up shop. States with exhibits were Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
Other countries, such as France, didn't have booths but sent delegations. France has formed a public-private partnership in recent years to promote foreign investment.
