To the Editor:
What a funny way to do business! Now I know I won't visit General Motors -- in this case, Chevrolet -- for a car! Those people don't have a clue.
People are buying cars from Toyota and Honda because they like Toyota and Honda; they build quality products at a reasonable price. People don't buy GM products unless they're priced right because everyone knows they can't turn out quality like the Japanese can.
Now, GM is raising the price by limiting inventory on a product that was selling, the Chevrolet Impala ("Chevy's plan: More from less," March 20). And those foreign-car owners that might consider GM are now having second thoughts and will now head back to Toyota, Honda, etc.
It adds up to bad public relations for GM. I think GM would have made sales inroads on the Japanese this year, but not with moves like this.
