DETROIT -- Subaru of America Inc.'s vice president of sales, Bill Cyphers, is switching duties to become vice president of independent distributor relations in early April.
Rick Crosson, Subaru's marketing vice president, said the automaker made the move to focus on its relationship with independent distributors, which make up 28 percent of its business.
"They need a little bit more attention, and we need to make sure we help them grow their business," Crosson told Automotive News Thursday afternoon.
Subaru spokeswoman Lisa Fleming said the company will look to fill the opening from within and then consider outside candidates.
Until the job is filled, Fred Adcock, executive vice president of sales, will take over Cyphers' old duties.
Cyphers has had a number of executive jobs at Subaru, including vice president of marketing and vice president of field operations. He started there in 1984. Before that he worked for 10 years in sales and marketing positions at Ford Motor Co.
Subaru also said advertising director Tim Bennett is leaving to pursue other business opportunities. He has been with Subaru since 1990 and pioneered niche, gay and lesbian marketing.
An undisclosed marketing manager also is leaving for a position at an unnamed Japanese automaker. Subaru said the changes were unrelated and take effect in early April.
