To the Editor:
The music performer Prince once changed his name to "the Artist Formerly Known as Prince."
I propose that you consider applying the same logic to your naming conundrum for the Detroit automotive businesses. Specifically, how about calling them: "the 3 formerly known as big"? For the record, I've been a lifelong General Motors product and design supporter as well as a customer.
Seventy percent of the business of the company I work for is in automotive metal processing, but our real growth is almost all in the transplant market.
Our economy and our country, if not the world, need our domestic automotive suppliers to remain strong and viable. But I fear for them. Their operational model needs revamping, and their competition shows no sign of letting up.
