Gasoline prices have risen steadily over the past seven days. The average price for regular unleaded gasoline jumped 5 cents since four days earlier and is the highest it has been in two weeks.
The average price for regular unleaded was selling at $2.31 a gallon on Tuesday. One month ago, the average price for regular unleaded was $2.35 a gallon, according to AAA, of Hawthorne, Fla. One year ago, the average price was $1.94 a gallon.
Diesel fuel prices also have risen, up 4 cents since Friday, March 3. The average price for diesel fuel was $2.60 a gallon on Tuesday. One month ago the average price was $2.59 a gallon, and one year ago, it was selling on average for $2.18 a gallon.
AAA surveys 85,000 self-serve stations across the country and posts its findings on www.fuelgaugereport.com.
Crude oil for April delivery was at $62.40 a barrel on Wednesday, down from $63.25 five days earlier.
The highest price for regular unleaded -- $2.89 a gallon -- was found in San Bruno, Calif. The lowest price for regular unleaded -- $1.89 a gallon -- was spotted in Gaffney, S.C., according to GasPriceWatch.com.
The Web site uses volunteer spotters and has recorded more than 298,000 prices this week.
