Cash buyouts of $25,000 to $75,000, free cars, continued health benefits - those are the kinds of goodies that could entice plenty of General Motors hourly workers to retire.
Too bad it's a hoax.
A real-looking newspaper report on the bogus buyout plant has been circulating in at least five GM plants. But the report is a fake, the UAW said last week.
The article was dated Feb. 16 and credited to Brett Clanton of the Detroit Free Press. But Clanton is a reporter for The Detroit News. And neither newspaper published a story that resembles the version found in GM plants.
