Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita soaked the Gulf Coast last year, the torrent of flood-damaged vehicles that many remarketers feared has not occurred.
Katrina severely damaged about 571,000 vehicles when it pounded parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama last August, Carfax Inc. estimates.
Suspicions that large numbers of wrecked vehicles with falsified titles would end up on auto dealership lots have not been realized, industry officials say.
In the most serious incident, 14 flood-damaged vehicles that were titled in areas hit by the hurricanes appeared at a California auction last month, Carfax spokesman Chris Basso says.
Those vehicles did not reach dealership lots.
