A week ago, fuel prices were on a consistent down slope. Now, they've reversed course.
The average price for regular unleaded gasoline rose a penny from three days earlier to $2.25 a gallon on Friday. One month ago the average price for regular unleaded was $2.33 a gallon, according to AAA, of Hawthorne, Fla. One year ago the average price for a gallon was $1.90.
Crude oil prices jumped more than $2 a barrel on Friday to about $61.75 after reports of an attempted attack on oil production facilities in Saudi Arabia. If that increase is sustained, pump prices will continue to rise.
The average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.55 a gallon Friday, unchanged from three days ago. One month ago diesel fuel was selling for an average of $2.57 a gallon, and one year ago the average price was $2.09 a gallon.
AAA surveys 85,000 self-serve stations across the country and posts its findings on www.fuelgaugereport.com
The highest price for regular unleaded gasoline was in Melbourne, Fla., at $2.99 a gallon. The lowest price found by GasPriceWatch.com was in Gaffney, S.C., at $1.73 a gallon.
The Web site uses volunteer spotters and has recorded more than 301,000 prices this week.
