General Motors announced that Mark Newman has replaced Mary Boland as the new CFO for General Motors North America unit. Boland left the automaker Feb. 10 after holding the job since December 2003. Newman took his new assignment when Boland left.
Newman has been assistant treasurer of GM since April 2004. Hes worked as a member of the GM Treasurers Office in New York, where he also had responsibilities for the Asia Pacific region.
Newman has served as vice president and chief financial officer for GMs joint venture company in China, Shanghai GM. He began his career at General Motors of Canada in 1984 as an engineering intern, and he served in a number of engineering and manufacturing positions prior to moving over to Finance.
Bolands departure comes two months after GM named Fritz Henderson to be the automaker's global CFO.
Boland worked for GM for 26 years, primarily in financial roles. In 1998 she was named the brand manager for the Pontiac Bonneville, but she returned to GM's finance group in 2000. Prior to being named CFO, Boland was executive director of finance and controller for GM North America.
