WASHINGTON -- A Florida company has opened a second front in its campaign to prove that it has a patent on technology used by Toyota Motor Corp. in gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles.
The International Trade Commission agreed last week to investigate the claim by Solomon Technologies Inc. that Toyota hybrids infringe on a Solomon patent. The commission has the power to bar imports of products that infringe on U.S. patents.
Solomon also has a federal lawsuit pending against Toyota. Solomon has a 1991 patent on a "dual-input, infinite-speed integral motor and transmission device."
Toyota declined comment.
