To the Editor:
As a former BMW dealer and now an automotive consultant, I cannot understand how certain executives keep their jobs.
At the retail level, have a bad year or sometimes a couple of bad sales months, and you are history.
Rick Wagoner, Bill Ford and now Mark LaNeve just hang in despite bad decisions that are killing their companies.
Why can't the automakers fill top positions with winners who have proved themselves and not just old cronies?
Assuming that General Motors and Ford can get some good people in place, it's going to take 10 to 15 years to rebuild at best.
Better start soon!
