Toyota will not reintroduce the Camry in Europe.
The sedan is the best-selling car in the United States. Toyota sold 431,703 Camrys here last year. The redesigned Camry goes on sale next month.
Toyota withdrew the Camry from western Europe in mid-2004 because of poor sales. Only 2,431 Camrys were sold in the region in 2003.
Andrea Formica, Toyota Motor Marketing Europe's vice president of sales and marketing, doesn't see a need for the Camry: "We have the Avensis large car and the Lexus brand, so we try to avoid model overlap."
Last year Toyota sold 120,436 Avensis units in western Europe, according to JATO Dynamics, a market researcher in the United Kingdom.
