Mazda Motor Corp. will tell dealers at the convention that it is on track to have 50 percent of its dealerships be exclusives by the end of March 2007.
Currently, 281 of Mazda's 711 U.S. dealerships are exclusives.
That is almost 40 percent of the total.
Those 281 stores account for 58 percent of Mazda's U.S. sales volume, says Daniel Morris, senior managing executive officer in charge of marketing, sales and customer service.
Morris declines to predict what the percentage will be when half of Mazda's stores are exclusives.
He says it will "easily" be two-thirds, and probably between two-thirds and three-fourths.
