Crude oil prices have dropped close to $2 a barrel this week, a likely indicator for pump prices to drop.
Prices for regular unleaded gasoline already has dropped. Regular unleaded was selling Friday at $2.32 a gallon, down 2 cents from Tuesday, Feb. 7. According to AAA, of Hawthorne, Fla., one month ago a gallon of regular unleaded was selling for an average of $2.33 a gallon. One year ago the average was $1.90 a gallon.
Diesel fuel prices fell as well. The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel was $2.58 on Friday. That's down a penny from three days earlier. One month ago the average price was $2.57 a gallon, and one year ago diesel was selling at $2.07 a gallon.
AAA surveys 85,000 self-serve stations and reports its findings at www.fuelgaugereport.com.
According to GasPriceWatch.com, Hawaii continues to have the highest reported price for regular unleaded gasoline, $3.12 a gallon in Kihei. The lowest price was $1.94 a gallon in Hartwell, Ga.
The Web site uses volunteer spotters and has reported more than 276,000 prices this week.
