DETROIT -- Leslie J. Allen, 44, former automotive editor of the Detroit Free Press, has joined Automotive News to fill the new position of projects writer.
Allen has built a successful career at several of the country's major newspapers. In 2003, she conceived of and edited the Free Press' award-winning series "Migration from the Motor City." The following year she co-edited the award-winning project "GM, Asia and the New Reality."
Before joining the Free Press in 2001, Allen spent 10 years as a reporter and editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer. She edited the Inquirer's automotive and Monday business sections. As a reporter there, she covered the technology beat.
Before joining the Inquirer, Allen spent seven years as a reporter at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She earned a journalism degree at Northwestern University.
At Automotive News, Allen will cover big-picture stories that affect domestic and foreign automakers.
