A new inventory management software system for used vehicles aims to help dealers predict which cars and trucks will sell most quickly.
Dale Pollak, a former dealer in South Elgin, Ill., developed the system, called mPower Auto. It analyzes dealers' investment in their used-vehicle inventories.
About 100 dealerships use mPower Auto, Pollak says.
Consumers' decisions about which used vehicles to buy generally depend on what they can get financed, Pollak told Automotive News. Most buyers, he adds, owe balances on their current vehicles. Often, they owe more than the vehicle is worth -- so-called negative equity.
