Tick, tick, tick . . .
Those ominous sounds -- which, over decades, have preceded indictments, embarrassments and other assorted shellackings -- may be ringing in the ears of two of General Motors' top executives. CEO Rick Wagoner and Vice Chairman Bob Lutz sat down with "60 Minutes" reporter Steve Croft on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The CBS show's producers had been courting GM's public relations chief, Tom Kowaleski, for nearly all of 2005, says an industry insider. Kowaleski held the wolves at bay until late in the year, when a producer finally told him: "Look, you can either cooperate and not like the show, or not cooperate and hate the show," the source says. So GM chose to cooperate.
It's not clear when the show will be aired, or how broad a look "60 Minutes" is taking at the troubles of U.S. industry.
