DETROIT -- After its mid-January cuts in sticker prices, General Motors has sliced some of its customer rebates in half. Ford Motor Co. had not revised prices as of late last week. It held steady on 2006 rebates, making its givebacks slightly higher than GM's. The Chrysler group increased most rebates.
A majority of GM's rebates on 2006 models now range from $500 to $1,000, along with $5,500 to $6,000 on the largest Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac SUVs.
Those SUVs soon will be replaced by the re-engineered and restyled 2007 models.
Most of Ford's 2006 rebates are in the $1,000 to $3,000 range.
The Big 3 rebates expire Jan. 31, except Lincoln and Mercury, which expire April 3.
