Volkswagen dealers will get a minivan, but it wont be the Microbus.
After months of negotiations, VW and the Chrysler group made it official last week. Chrysler will build a version of its next-generation minivan for VW. Look for it to reach showrooms in 2008.
The VW vans will be built at Chryslers plant in St. Louis, sources say. That helps explain the $1 billion investment, announced in early December, to overhaul the plant to make it more flexible.
While in the works for a while, the deal took two former colleagues new DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche and VW brand chief Wolfgang Bernhard to get it on the fast track.
Few other details about the project were released last week. But dont be surprised if VW gets its own version of verstauen sie and gehen sie! (you stow and you go.)
