Next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Geely Automobile Co. Ltd. will become the first Chinese automaker to show a car in North America.
Geely (pronounced JEE-lee) plans to display a sedan in the lobby at Cobo Center during the show's press days.
Here's a little advice, Geely: Don't bother -- unless the quality of your car is at least as good as Kia cars and other inexpensive entry-level models.
If the gaps in the doors, hood and trunk are not uniform; if there are thumbprints on the inside of the plastic gauge cover; if there are crooked trim pieces and sloppy packaging, you'll be eaten alive by skeptical journalists.
Quality is the price of admission to this market.
