Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center Inc. has received a single-business tax credit worth more than $32.6 million to expand its new facility in Superior Township, Mich., according to a release by Gov. Jennifer Granholms office Tuesday.
Hyundai-Kia, which opened the 200,000-square-foot technical center in October, will invest $94 million to expand the center. The state tax credit, as well as a $12.1-million tax abatement over 12 years from Superior Township, helped convince Hyundai-Kia to expand in Michigan instead of Alabama, according to the statement.
The expansion is expected to create 600 new jobs at Hyundai-Kia, which currently employs about 140.
