The Ford Fusion sedan, redesigned Honda Civic and Pontiac Solstice roadster were the top three vote-getters in the 2006 North American Car of the Year contest.
Truck finalists are the redesigned Ford Explorer, the Nissan Xterra SUV and the Honda Ridgeline pickup.
Forty-nine auto journalists made the selections, evaluating 14 cars and 14 trucks that are either new models or redesigns. The six finalists were announced last week, and the auditing firm Deloitte & Touche USA will reveal the two winners when the Detroit auto show press preview begins Jan. 8.
The jury included Automotive News Executive Editor Edward Lapham and Senior Writer Dale Jewett.
Last year's winners were the Chrysler 300 and the Ford Escape Hybrid.
