To the Editor:
I am responding to Peter Brown's Dec. 5 Comment column, "Why do people pick on dealers?"
With more than 30 million auto retailing transactions taking place per year, some purchase stories won't be good. Fortunately, those are few and far between, with the good stories outweighing the bad. There are reasons for that.
Pricing information is readily available from numerous sources.
Manufacturers and dealers are working just as hard as ever to meet customer expectations and improve the purchase process.
The buyers know that, and their opinions give credence to the retailers' success. Ninety-one percent of new-car buyers voice satisfaction with their purchase experience, a level that has been consistently high since 1998, when Automotive Retailing Today began tracking the customer experience.
We all need to keep our perspective and remember that dealers are doing a lot that's right.
