Gasoline prices continue to drop in the final days before Thanksgiving as motorists brace for one of the heaviest travel periods of the year.
The price of regular unleaded gasoline has dropped 5 cents since Friday and stood at $2.20 on Tuesday. It was $2.64 a month ago and $1.95 a year ago, according to AAA, of Hawthorne, Fla.
Diesel fuel has slid 7 cents since Friday to $2.66 on Tuesday. It was $3.24 last month and $2.17 last year.
AAA surveys as many as 85,000 self-serve filling stations daily and reports its findings on fuelgaugereport.com.
Crude oil was trading at near $59 a barrel on Tuesday.
The highest price, $2.95, for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was seen in Paia, Hawaii. The lowest price, $1.73, was recorded in Evans, Ga., according to GasPriceWatch.com.
The Web site uses volunteer spotters and has recorded more than 221,000 prices this week.
