OJAI, Calif. -- Toyota Division will come oh-so-close to breaking the 2-million-unit sales mark in the United States this year, but low inventories will postpone the event until next year.
Toyota would be only the third brand to hit 2 million sales, along with Chevrolet and Ford Division. Toyota already outsells those two brands in cars but trails in light trucks.
Jim Lentz, Toyota Division general manager, predicts Toyota and Scion combined will sell 1.95 million units in 2005.
Toyota includes Scion vehicles in its divisional total because they are sold only through Toyota dealerships. Scion sold 99,259 units last year and is on track to hit 150,000 this year.
