The wait for the Volkswagen Eos hardtop convertible just got longer.
Two times last week, Volkswagen pushed back the European launch of the Passat-based Eos -- first two months to next May, then to July 2006. The reason? Quality issues, the automaker said.
VW brand chief Wolfgang Bernhard made the call to delay the launch. The Eos has been a pet project of Bernhard's since he arrived at VW last year. In the three months prior to the Frankfurt show, Bernhard flew to the assembly plant in Portugal every two weeks to check on the car's progress, company sources said. One concern was operation of the folding hardtop.
May 2006 is when the Eos had been expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships. Now it looks like it might be next fall.
