As strategic director of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.'s Automotive Center, John Waraniak works for one of the largest Indian IT firms -- a company eager to land more IT business within the U.S. auto industry.
Tata Consultancy is part of the Tata Group (tata.com), a conglomerate of more than 90 companies that includes carmaker Tata Motors.
Tata is a newcomer to the United States. Its automotive center office in Troy, Mich., near Detroit, opened last year.
One of the services Tata offers is known as grid computing, where customers pay for computer processing and storage space.
Tata's lack of stature in the U.S. automotive IT market doesn't seem to bother Waraniak.
He is well known in automotive IT circles. A former director of e-business speed at Johnson Controls Inc., Waraniak also worked for Oracle Corp. and was as an independent adviser to several automotive companies. He has extensive experience in e-commerce, lean manufacturing systems, customization and brand marketing.
Waraniak spoke with Special Correspondent Tim Moran.
