DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. has added more European companies to its strategic suppliers list.
Two German companies - Hella of Lippstadt and Getrag Group of Untergruppenbach - were among the partsmakers placed on Ford's elite list.
Ford plans to reduce the number of suppliers it uses for key auto parts.
The automaker plans to cut in half the number of suppliers that provide about $35 billion (nearly E30 billion) in annual purchases of 20 key components.
Last month Ford picked its first seven key suppliers. Autoliv was the only European-based supplier on the initial list.
The number of key suppliers to date is now up to 12.
