LAS VEGAS - Toyota will replace its Echo car in the US with its Yaris small car in early 2006.
The Echo has not sold well in North America. But it's a good bet that the more stylish Yaris will add momentum to the relentless Toyota sales machine in the US.
Toyota expects to sell about 50,000 units of hatchback and sedan Yaris versions in the US next year, rising to 70,000 units in 2007.
Through 10 months of this year, Toyota sold 1,527 Echos, down 55.4 percent from the year-ago period.
The second-generation Yaris goes on sale in Europe in December. Toyota unveiled the three-door small car at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show here.
