MUNICH - BMW plans to introduce a powertrain for the 7 series by 2008 that will be able to operate on hydrogen or gasoline.
According to BMW, the car will offer a driving range of 200km to 300km when powered by hydrogen and up to 500km for gasoline engines. Its top speed is expected to be 215kph.
Burkhard Goeschel, BMW's board member in charge of development, said that "within the next three years, we will be delivering hydrogen vehicles that can be operated with hydrogen as well as gasoline."
BMW has not released details of the price premium or production volume for the engine.
