DETROIT -- UAW members ratified an agreement with General Motors that would cut by $1 billion the company's annual health care costs.
The union announced Friday that a 61 percent majority of members who voted approved the deal. Under the agreement, retirees will pay an annual deductible of as much as $752. Active workers will forgo a scheduled pay increase
of $1 an hour.
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan must approve the proposed changes to retiree benefits.
