DETROIT -- General Motors is expanding its Standards for Excellence options for 2006 to make it easier for small dealers to earn cash and other perks.
GM also will allow all dealers to earn cash rewards monthly rather than quarterly.
The changes answer two dealer complaints about the program, which rewards sales and customer service.
Small dealers complained that the volume-based rewards meant they couldn't recoup the entry free, which could be as high as $35,000 annually.
And dealers argued that the quarterly rewards meant dealers who had two good months followed by a slow sales month could miss out on a bonus.
GM's brands still will offer Standards for Excellence programs with different criteria to join. But a new program, called Multi-Line Standards for Excellence, is meant to serve small dealers of any GM division.
