DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has named five more companies to its strategic suppliers list: Dana Corp., of Toledo, Ohio; DuPont Co., of Wilmington, Del.; Hella KG Hueck & Co., of Lippstadt, Germany; Getrag Group, of Untergruppenbach, Germany; and Foster Electric Co. Ltd., of Tokyo.
That brings to 12 the number of strategic suppliers Ford has named as part of an effort to cut in half the number of suppliers that provide about $35 billion in annual purchases of 20 key components. The automaker announced the first seven companies in September.
"We'll be naming more suppliers in the coming weeks and months, and we expect to wrap up the first phase by mid-2006," Ford spokesman Paul Wood said in an e-mail.
Ford has said its 200 largest suppliers now account for one-half of its $90 billion annual global purchasing budget.
