Your editorial ("GM, UAW have made a good start; hard work remains," Oct. 24) mentions General Motors' "nagging issue" as being manufacturing capacity, with the resulting need to close factories and eliminate jobs.
The real nagging issue is GM's chronic inability to make a high-volume hit. With eight brands of cars and trucks and all their offerings, there is not one gotta-have car, with the exception of some high-end Cadillacs and Corvettes.
The new Pontiac Solstice is a head-turner and is priced right -- finally. But it's a low- volume two-seater.
