DETROIT -- A Chinese auto-parts company plans to open an r&d operation west of Detroit.
Century Automotive, a division of China-based Tempo Group, plans to build a 425,000-square-foot facility on a parcel of land it has already purchased in Canton Township, Mich., according to a Wayne County official. Officials would not reveal the exact location.
Century's plans are sketchy, but the official said the company will hire 200 people for the operation. No date for the opening was given. The deal was struck in China late Wednesday, Oct. 19, by Wayne County officials and Tianbao Zhou, the founder and chairman of the Tempo Group.
