Two dispatches from automotive rumor central, European division:
Zetsche and Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn also have been on Bill Ford's wish list, but previous overtures went nowhere. A Ford official downplayed the Cordes speculation, saying the Cordes camp may be trying to generate interest in him. But Bill Ford has said he will continue to search for management talent.
"It's absolutely groundless," said Renault spokesman Stephane Farhi.
The French business weekly Challenges said Ghosn is "closely studying an alliance with General Motors or Ford" that would involve "an exchange of shares."
