NEW YORK -- Bankrupt parts supplier Tower Automotive Inc. said on Wednesday it will move production of Ford Ranger frame assemblies from Milwaukee, Wis., to its facility in Bellevue, Ohio.
Tower said the move will affect about 300 workers at Milwaukee.
Tower said the action is part of its efforts to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs and that it expects no interruption in product shipment to Ford Motor Co.
"We feel deeply for those affected by this action," said Bill Pumphrey, Tower Automotive's president of North American operations. "However, it is a necessary step toward Tower's successful emergence from Chapter 11."
Tower, of Novi, Mich., ranked No. 21 on the Automotive News list of top 150 original equipment suppliers to North America, with original equipment sales of $2.11 billion in 2004.
