DETROIT -- Saturn begins its transformation to a new styling theme set by the upcoming Sky roadster with some nips and tucks to the Vue Red Line wagon for 2006.
Red Line is the name Saturn gives to higher-performance versions of its vehicles. The Vue Red Line is powered by a Honda-built 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 250 hp.
The most significant changes to the Vue Red Line for 2006 are a new grille with a chrome bar, body-color lower cladding and a unique faceplate for the gauge cluster. Leather seats with suede fabric inserts are standard, replacing last year's standard cloth seats.
Another new feature for the Vue Red Line is lighting for the front and rear footwells. The driver can change the color of the lighting from blue to amber with a switch on the center stack.
All Vues for 2006 get a redesigned center stack, console and steering wheel with audio controls.
Through the first nine months of this year, Vue sales are up 1.5 percent from the same period of last year, to 70,962 units.
Saturn said the 2006 Vue Red Line will have a base price of $24,485, including shipping. That is $740 less than the 2005 base Vue Red Line.
A Saturn spokesman said production of the 2006 Vue Red Line will likely begin late this month.
