TOKYO -- Honda Motor Co. has set an annual sales goal of 28,000 Civic Hybrids in the United States. Sales of the redesigned 2006 hybrid model are scheduled to start in October. The target may be modest, given that demand for hybrids is booming with gasoline approaching $3 per gallon.
In 2004, Honda sold 25,571 Civic Hybrids in the United States, up 17.5 percent from 2003.
Fuel-efficient hybrids use a gasoline engine and one or more electric motors to power the wheels.
